Week 2, here we go. If you missed the reason behind the Workout Diary, check out my entry from Week 1. My work schedule was a little weird this week so I didn’t get a chance to try any new classes or studios. Where should I go in Week 3? Email me anytime or post a message through Facebook and Twitter.
Monday, 1/9/12: Yoga. I worked later than usual today because I covered the Nuggets practice. By the time I got home and ate a late lunch, I opted for a quick 50 minute yoga session from my Brian Kest Power Yoga DVD. I did a yoga session every Monday during the football season (since I worked a split shift those days), and my plan is to keep that routine going (unless it’s REALLY nice outside!).
Tuesday, 1/10/12: Bike & Happy Birthday to my Mom! At 65 years young, she looks amazing – I hope I look half that good 65. I rode a nice 18-mile loop around Castle Pines and enjoyed some climbing. I love biking and running in the cooler weather because I really enjoy to layer. It might sound weird, but when I wear something fun, it adds a spark to my workout. Try it sometime. Treat yourself to something that is a little “flashy” or bright. You might find when you throw it on, you’re a little more excited than usual to get your sweat on.
Wednesday, 1/11/12: Rest. I took some time to catch up on life this afternoon and make a visit to my chiropractor for some ART (see last week for more info). Plus my family and I went to the Nuggets/Nets game, and I didn’t feel like getting ready all over again. I do that once at 2 a.m. – I’m not crazy about doing it again at 5 p.m.
Thursday, 1/12/12: Spin Class. I took today off from 9News to trade out for Saturday night. During the winter when I have a Tuesday or Thursday morning off, I will often take a 6 a.m. spin class from Paul at theMeridian 24 Hour Fitness. I enjoy his style – he’s not rah-rah, gives options for different levels of ability and I sweat like crazy. Great class. I originally had plans to visit a new class today, but opted to run a slew of neglected errands, including a trip to Costco for dog food and toilet paper that turned into a $200 experience. How does that happen every time?
Friday, 1/13/12: Run/jog/walk. I was going to swim, but when Mike Casey from The Mountain interviewed me on his radio show this morning, he told me to do everything tomorrow the same as I did on Sunday since the Broncos won. So, since I swam on Sunday, I decided to run. Superstition at its best! My calf felt great the last couple of days so I walked the first mile to get it warmed up, then ran/jogged the other four. I can tell my calf is healing because it isn’t “barking” on the outside of my shin anymore, just the inside. I iced it after and did a lot of stretching. It felt great to run.
Saturday, 1/14/12: Swim. As per Casey’s suggestion, I not only swam, but I did the exact same workout as Sunday (2200 yards). At the end, however, I decided to add an extra 200 yards because I knew the Broncos would need to give extra tonight against the Patriots. Yeah, that didn’t work out so well. All it got me were longer lasting goggle impressions around my eyes and a night of putting together crummy highlights. Bummer.
Sunday, 1/15/12: Bike. My brother and I organize weekend group bike rides in the Highlands Ranch area and held our first ride of 2012 today. We took a group of 25 out to Chatfield and back. Between the route and the trek to and from my house, I rode 43 miles. Longest ride I’ve done in a couple months and my legs reminded me as the day went on. Hopefully there will be much more biking in the near future as the 10 day forecast looks promising! If you’d like to hear about our group rides, opt in to our Group Ride email alerts.
